Infrastructure
The construction and expansion of the infrastructure forms the basis for Bolama’s development into an important node for logistics, transport, and trade. Even now, the islands of the Bissago archipelago rank among the largest hubs for container ships. The previously stagnant economic progress on the island Bolama, in combination with its great, largely unutilised potential, offer ideal preconditions for pumping new life into the economy, public life, and the rich culture of the island as well as the former capital of Guinea-Bissau – and to sustainably strengthen and promote the commensurate infrastructural measures.
Two of the most important projects for building a completely new infrastructure on Bolama are the construction of a deep-water harbour.
