The South-East of Bolama Island offers pristine and pollution free nature with beautiful lagoon bays long and white sandy beaches surrounded by thick vegetation calm, clear and shallow water which offers a huge marine diversity perfect for snorkelling completely undiscovered by mass tourism.
Guinea-Bissau possesses enormously diverse flora and fauna and is rich in untouched nature especially deserving of protection. Therefore, in the southwestern part of the island Bolama, a nature preserve will be established, which will offer plants and animals a secure habitat, so that country’s the great species variety is maintained and can further develop.

Nature
With its offshore Bissagos archipelago, Guinea-Bissau is a still-undiscovered paradise for every Africa and nature aficionado. The vegetation and wildlife of the West African island is varied, largely untouched, and offers a great diversity of species. Travellers can be enthralled by broad savannahs, entwined mango groves, proliferous rainforests, and spacious sandy beaches. Even now, animal lovers come at their own expense and can experience crocodiles, hippopotamuses, turtles, monkeys, pelicans, and elephants in their natural habitat.
Bissau, the capital
Also worth seeing is the picturesque capital Bissau, which with 400,000 residents is home to the largest share of the country’s population. Highlights include the characteristic buildings from the colonial era with their distantly echoed glory of times long past, the National Museum, or the exotic atmosphere of the market halls.
Bissagos-Islands
The Bissagos Islands are a true holiday jewel – until now, hardly visited – isolated from the mainland and designated by UNESCO since 1996 as a biosphere reservation. Awaiting exploration are the islands, located in the middle of the Atlantic and lined with 88 dream beaches – only 19 of which are inhabited.
City of Bolama
Bolama, with its eponymous capital city, is the island of the tropical archipelago located closest to the mainland. The harbour, with around 10,000 inhabitants, is famous for its cashew nuts, and during the colonial era it was the capital of Portuguese Guinea, today’s Guinea-Bissau. Even today, the gradually fading traces of this historical epoch can be discerned. But above all, it is Bolama’s dreamy, fine-sanded beaches that mark the character of the islands.
